Any time you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that specific company. On their end, 3 records are set up automatically the moment the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that deals with the emails for that specific domain. The site and the email hosting are generally perceived as one thing, when they are in reality two different services. Having independent records for them will allow you to have them with different providers if you wish. As an example, some new provider might have excellent uptime for your website, but you may not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain name to the former and MX records to have the emails with the second, you will get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you wish to open a website or send an email - in either case, the company whose name servers are used for the domain will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you're going to see the needed site or your email is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a shared website hosting account through our company and you would like to point either your website or your emails to another service provider, it will take you literally only two clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard 2, it's not going to take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of any record that you change or create won't take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will remain active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan through our company, you're going to be able to view and change the A and MX records for any one of the domain addresses or subdomains that you host in the account. The Hepsia CP, which you will get to manage the account, comes with an state-of-the-art, albeit easy-to-use tool where all hosts are going to be listed in alphabetical order and you're going to be able to modify their records with no more than a couple of mouse clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it'll be just as simple - choose the domain/subdomain, type in the IP address or mail server record and you're going to be all set. You will also be able to set different priority for the MX records which you create in case you want to use a third-party email provider and they ask you to set up additional records other than the 2 standard ones. If you ever experience any difficulties, we've got a in-depth Help section with videos where you can see first-hand how to create or change any record.
